BarTracks Hand-Held Scanners

The scanner that we usually supply is a true
laser scanner, though it looks like a PDA. It is the Symbol SPT
1550 Laser Scanner, as shown below. They come with 8 MB of RAM and
4 MB of ROM.

You are right in thinking that
it could be a PDA because, in fact, it has all of the physical and
software features of a Palm handheld PDA. But in addition, it has
a true laser scanner at the top, activated by the thumb pressing either
of the two blue buttons at the top-right and top-left.
We prefer this model because it is easy to carry and use, has lots
of memory, and is inexpensive. If people are afraid of dropping it,
we recommend and supply Ruggedizer Boots, which are simple protective
rubber covers.

If the Scanners will
be used in moist or outdoor environments, we can provide the Symbol
SPT 1800, shown below. They are larger and more rugged. But they are
more expensive, and more rugged than the SPT 1550 with a Boot. They
have 16 MB of RAM and 4 MB of ROM. |
